12th ZagrebDox - The best documentaries produced globally

This year’s edition of ZagrebDox, which will take place at the Cineplexx Centar Kaptol cinema between February 21st and 28th, will feature screenings of the year’s best documentaries. A new programme titled “Fall in Love with Documentaries” will precede the festival and take place between February 12th and 14th.

This year’s 12th edition of the International Festival of Documentary Film ZagrebDox will take place somewhat earlier than usual, between February 21st and 28th, at the Cineplexx Centar Kaptol cinema, where the audiences will have the opportunity to see the best documentaries of the year in the international and regional competitive programmes, special programmes and an array of retrospectives.

With a premium on the authors’ creativity, more than two thousand films from all over the world were considered for the competitive programme of this year’s ZagrebDox, which means that the selected works represent the very best of contemporary global documentary film production. Among others, the international competitive programme will feature the Oscar nominated film “Cartel Land” by Matthew Heinemann. The documentary is dedicated to the two outlaw groups of citizens who have taken it upon themselves to battle the Mexican drug cartels. Apart from the Academy Award, it was also nominated for the BAFTA award.

In order to show the audiences as many quality documentary films as possible, this year’s edition of ZagrebDox will also introduce a new programme – “Fall in Love with Documentaries”. The program will precede the festival itself and will take place between February 12th and 14th. It will feature screenings of three films from the international competitive programme. Among them will be the winner of the Sundance Film Festival – “Wolfpack”, by American director Crystal Moselle. The film tells the story of six brothers who were kept in an isolated Manhattan apartment all their lives by their father, and the only knowledge of the world they had was from their father’s diverse film collection. There will also be a screening of the South Korean hit by Jin Mo-Young – “My Love, Don't Cross That River”, telling the story of the love and married life of two centenaries, as well as the spectacular French documentary dealing with the portrait of humanity – “Human”, by Yann Arthus-Bertrand.

This, however, is but a fraction of what visitors can expect at this year’s edition of ZagrebDox, which truly offers the opportunity to fall in love with documentary films.
