Zagreb Film Festival awaits with an array of exceptional cinematic achievements from 11 to 19 November, at the usual city locations: Kino Europa and Kino Tuškanac, the Museum of Contemporary Art and more. Over nine days including two weekends, the Festival brings to film lovers over one hundred screenings and films and fifteen accompanying events.
As in previous years the Zagreb Film Festival will present and promote debut films and new directors, while the national competition programme “Kockica “every year curates and presents to the audience a range of new names in Croatian film. People who were once novices at the Zagreb Film Festival and who are today great directors include Steve McQueen, Xavier Dolan, Andrey Zvyagintsev and Jeff Nichols.
The Golden Bicycle award introduced at last year’s festival will be given to the best film from the supporting category “With Us Again”. This category includes new films by directors whose previous work has been shown at earlier Zagreb Film Festivals and who have in some way grown up with the Festival. Of the many supporting programmes it is also worth mentioning “My First Film” which brings us the debut works of some of the world’s most important directors selected by film critic Nenad Polimac. “The Big 5” brings us new work from the five biggest countries in European cinema (Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Spain), and this year too the “Bibijada” and “PLUS” programmes present film for children and young people.
