A small-town wonder - The Lahti Symphony Orchestra at Lisinski

During the upcoming season, fans of classical music will once again have plenty of opportunities to enjoy performances by renowned musicians at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall, where the fantastic Lahti Symphony Orchestra from Finland, and the talented Finnish violinist Elina Vähälä, will perform on October 20th.

On October 20th, the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall will be the venue for a performance by the fantastic Lahti Symphony Orchestra from Finland. The excellent orchestra from the town of Lahti is known in Finland as a “small-town wonder”. Thanks to cooperation with the Swedish record label BIS Records, the group has performed its music on some of the greatest orchestral stages worldwide. The Lahti Symphony Orchestra owes a lot of its enviable quality to its former head conductors, Osmo Vänskä and Jukka-Pekka Saraste, as well as the conductor and art-director of the Sibelius Festival, Okko Kamu, who has conducted many of the leading orchestras in the world.

Apart from music by the great Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, the Lahti Symphony Orchestra performs music by contemporary Finnish authors. It is also open to various other music genres which has attracted the interest of a wider audience and led to the winning of numerous awards. The Lahti Symphony Orchestra has released seven gold plated records and one platinum record – the Soundtrack for a film about Sibelius, as well as recordings of hits by popular bands such as ABBA and Queen in cooperation with the Rajaton band.

At their concert in Zagreb, the Lahti Symphony Orchestra will be joined by the top class Finnish violinist Elina Vähälä. This talented artist debuted in the orchestra when she was only twelve years old. She was later chosen by maestro Osmo Vänskä as the youngest orchestral soloist, which was the beginning of a very successful career in music.

Tickets for the concert by the Lahti Symphony Orchestra can be purchased at prices ranging between 80 and 150 kuna at the box office of the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall, or online at www.ulaznice.hr
