Aftermath: Nothing Can Destroy the Atmosphere of the City and the Spirit of Its Citizens

Today Zagreb has a few more scars, but there is also awareness that absolutely nothing can destroy the atmosphere of the city that is so popular among visitors and the spirit of the people who live in it.

Visitors in outdoor restaurants and coffee shops, a lot of flowers and parks that have never been greener, more and more interesting events in the city streets and squares but also theatres, museums and cinemas which are slowly opening doors to visitors; these are some of the scenes that you can see in Zagreb in June. Judging by them, it would be difficult to guess that just three months ago this was the setting of a scenario worthy of a disaster novel. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, on 22 March, Zagreb was hit by a disastrous earthquake, the strongest one in the last 140 years.

Today the effects are mostly less visible to passers-by and will be remedied gradually, but unfortunately they will be felt in the life of some cultural institutions and vulnerable parts of the city for a long time. However, this certainly has not spoilt the atmosphere that the city is famous for, which attracted visitors in the past and continues to do so today. With the necessary precautions which guarantee safety and health care services to citizens and visitors alike, life in the city is back to normal offering many cultural, entertaining, gastro and other events.

Hotels, suits and hostels in Zagreb have more and more visitors coming from Croatia but also from abroad, which is favoured by the fact that scheduled air service is re-established after a temporary suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic. Therefore Zagreb welcomes visitors with a renewed optimism and its citizens are more aware then ever of their love for the city and its atmosphere. They are famous for their hospitality and now they want to share their bond with the city with visitors.
