Boris Bućan shows in the Cabinet of Graphics of the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences – the phenomenon of poster art

Boris Bućan/the phenomenon of poster art is the title of this exhibition in the Cabinet of Graphics of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU).

The exhibition is a selection of 23 posters, all large anthological posters by one of the most prominent graphic artists of the last quarter of the 20^th century, created for the Croatian National Theatre in Split, the Zagreb Symphony Orchestra and the Zagreb Radio Television Choir. The opus of posters by Boris Bućan is an unmissable part of Croatian and global cultural heritage. With an intensive creativity over many years Bućan has made his mark on the concept of posters and his perception among the public and future generations. Bućan’s artistic work started in his student days when he made his first posters for the Student Centre in Zagreb and the Gavella Drama Theatre. In the 1980s he made large posters with a very dominant artistic character which with their drama and presence grabbed attention and significantly changed the look of public space in the city. Art posters for theatre performances, concerts, exhibitions and other cultural events were printed using the silk-screen method. With original ideas, bold composition and strong colouration brought to life with bright silk-screen colours, Bućan introduces us to a world of symbols, humour, phantasmagoria and unbridled creativity. The exhibition in the Cabinet of Graphics is open from 29 May to 25 July on working days, 10:00-18:00, and Saturdays 11:00-14:00.
