Dear citizens and guests of Zagreb!
Every tourist destination worth its salt would be rightfully proud of the many tourist, sports, cultural and musical treats which are on offer in Zagreb this month. We take great pride in announcing the European University Games Zagreb Rijeka 2016. For 15 days in July, 5,000 students from a total of 45 European states and more than 300 universities will compete in as many as 21 different sports disciplines, and thus they will become protagonists of the most beautiful sports story ever told in Croatia.
Visit one of the most attractive regional festivals, the 6th edition of the Fantastic Zagreb Film Festival, which this summer is more interesting than ever to the delight of numerous fans of fantasy and similar genres. In the downtown cinema halls and at the fantastic summer cinema stage Tuškanac, film buffs can find science fiction, thrillers, fantasy, animated movies, genre classics and cult movies, horror and short movies, as well as additional surprises. We can also look forward to two fantastic nights at the end of the festival at Zagreb’s Medvednica Fort.
Once again, Zagreb’s Upper Town will be the place to go in search of attractive cultural events. The programmes on offer there are numerous and varied. Visit the 35th edition of Evenings at Grič and choose from over 30 events, all worthy of a trip downtown. Do not miss another delightful event known as Upper Town Courtyards. Here you can discover the courtyards and gardens hiding behind the facades of the Upper Town palaces. We invite you to have fun and to make the most of the entertainment, delicious snacks and refreshing drinks flavoured with the genuine atmosphere of Zagreb.
This summer brings another addition to the list of Zagreb’s attractions: Summer at Zrinjevac. All citizens and tourists will be able to enjoy a series of excellent concerts, comedy evenings, dancing and sports activities organized under watchful experts’ eyes, while the youngest visitors will be able to express their creativity at creative workshops. This will all take place in Zagreb’s most picturesque park in the very heart of the city.
This year, Zagreb will be host to the 50th International Folklore Festival. Folklore groups and individuals will participate in the festival’s programme and present the diversity of Croatian ethnographic heritage. Admirers of the great Miroslav Krleža will certainly appreciate a visit to the namesake festival dedicated to the real and imaginary women in the writer’s opus and life.
Join us and savour the exciting summer days this July in our own Zagreb!
Yours sincerely,
Milan Bandić
Mayor of Zagreb
