Dear citizens of Zagreb, dear guests!

The month of November is before us, when the city does not slip into hibernation but its rhythm picks up in a pre-Christmas atmosphere. Treats from the world of film, theatre, music, sport and exhibitions await you. We are getting ready for a magnificent Advent in Zagreb in December which guarantees a warm and positive atmosphere.

The Zagreb Film Festival is back for its 15th year. The Festival has from the very beginning aimed to present and promote debut films and new directors. The festival will be held from 11 to 19 November at the usual city locations (Kino Europa and Tuškanac, the Museum of Contemporary Art and more), and will run over nine days, including two weekends, which gives us more than 100 screenings and films and 15 events.

This year the cinematic arts are joined by the dramatic arts: European Theatre Night will be held in Zagreb. European Theatre Night is a one-day event dedicated to the dramatic and performing arts. It is held simultaneously in 11 European countries (Croatia, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Slovenia, Serbia, Austria and Hungary, and in this year the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Belgium are joining), every year on the third Saturday in November. The theatre on that day becomes the central place for meetings, dialogue, socialising and learning both for artists and theatre workers and for audiences.

Fans of the chanson will enjoy themselves in November at the international festival of chanson, Chansonfest 2017. All compositions will be performed live accompanied by the festival orchestra. Chansonfest will be divided into two parts: performances by Croatian writers and singers, among whom is a significant number of young and as-yet unaffirmed musicians, and performances by international guests.

Book lovers and fans of gaming will find something of interest at the Zagreb Fair. The 40th Interliber international exhibition of books and teaching aids will be held this November, bringing together the worlds of publishing and educational creations, with the largest offering of books, promoting books, knowledge and science. A special programme of events will mark the jubilee 40th Interliber. Fans of computer games can visit Reboot Infogamer 2017, the sixth edition of one of the largest gaming exhibitions and festivals in Europe which will attract more than 70,000 visitors from all over Europe.

We invite all those interested in healthy living to register for a night street run, the 6th Zagreb Night Cener, a 10 km race which will this year host 2500 runners. The race is organised by the Aktivan život association for sport and recreation in partnership with the City Office for Health of the City of Zagreb as part of Fight Addiction Month.

Sincerely yours,

Mayor of the City of Zagreb

Milan Bandić
