The icing on the cake at the end of the year, Advent in Zagreb, the best Christmas market in Europe started on Saturday 2 December and will last, together with New Year events, until 7 January 2018.

As well as regular programmes such as the Ice Park, Advent on Zrinjevac and on Europski trg, Fuliranje, Christmas Fairytales, Advent at various locations in Gornji grad and elsewhere, Zagreb Tourist Board and its partners have also prepared a range of new programmes for our many visitors and citizens. Certainly worth highlighting is Advent at Prekrižje which has been prepared in partnership with the Office of the President of the Republic of Croatia and the City of Zagreb, as well as Advent at the Croatian Railway Museum and Advent at the Zoo which offer a host of interesting things for our youngest visitors.

The spirit of Advent has also brought to life to the Croatian Association of Fine Artists where the exhibition “Nikola Tesla – Mind from the Future” has opened, certainly the scientific and artistic event of the year. We can experience real warmth in the Parish Church of St Blaise where the exhibition “The Warmth of Christmas” is being held. There are also other Christmas programmes such as living nativities, concerts from Zagreb’s Christmas balconies, exhibitions in the Museum of Arts and Crafts, the Croatian National Theatre, the Mimara Museum, the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museums and many more.

New Year in Zagreb will be marked with a traditional New Year’s Eve celebration on Trg bana Jelačića while New Year’s Eve celebrations are also being organised at most advent locations. At the Croatian National Theatre a celebratory New Year concert awaits us, and on Trg Svetog Marka the New Year Changing of the Guards of the Guard of Honour of the Cravat Regiment.

Our Advent has succeeded in returning to the streets that good spirit of Zagreb and showing to our guests a Christmas atmosphere which you can feel at every step. Advent in Zagreb is full of emotion, things to do and cultural events and exudes a real holiday warmth. Visitors have recognised that and for two years running have voted Zagreb European Best Christmas Destination. We have done everything we can to try to earn that valuable award for a third time. Because the icing on the cake tastes best during Advent!
