Easter Is Near: Holiday Spirit in the City

Easter in Zagreb is always full of colours and flavours and marked by festive atmosphere. With the addition of special events and traditional dishes, there are many reasons to spend this most important Christian festival in Zagreb.

Even though Easter events will have to be in line with epidemiological measures, it is certain that this year the city will again be marked by holiday spirit and that traditions that have been passed on for generations will be cherished.

Your hosts will make sure you have a rich Easter breakfast whose essential ingredients are boiled ham and eggs, spring onions, horseradish and a wide selection of traditional pastries. Decoration will contribute to the holiday atmosphere in the city as well as colourful spring flower beds in many city parks. During the holiday period, in front of the cathedral in the area of Kaptol, as well as in the central Ban Josip Jelačić Square, large Easter eggs will be on display, painted in naïve style as in previous years. The eggs are made of Plexiglas, they are 2.05 meters tall, 1.5 meters wide, and their base is adorned with flowers. They were given as a present to Zagreb by Koprivnica Križevci County, the cradle of the naïve painting style which marks the eggs.

There are many other attractions that Zagreb has to offer during this holiday season and mark the start of a more intense tourism activity in the city.
