Hard and Heavy Music from Tvornica kulture to Šalata – The Kills and Many More Good Concerts
In Tvornica kulture, just as in other Zagreb concert spaces, “production” is being ramped up to the next level. There are many excellent concerts lined up much to the joy of fans of music of all kinds.
One of the most significant indie rock bands of the last two decades, US-UK duo The Kills is coming to this region for the first time on Saturday 19 August, and of course they are coming to Zagreb’s Tvornica kulture.
Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince have been performing together as The Kills since 2000. They have to date released 5 studio albums. The last, “Ash & Ice”, which many will say is excellent, was released in 2016. Both musicians have had packed musical careers outside of their core band, and of their other projects the most significant is Alison Mosshart in The Dead Weather, a group in which she joined forces with the great Jack White. The Kills belongs to a newer generation of bands, combining a lo-fi sound with flights of guitar riffs, blues and garage rock. You can hear the influences of greats such as The Clash, Nirvana, Sonic Youth, the Velvet Underground and Fugazi in their music, and the whole musical effect is reinforced by the charismatic Alison, one of the best female vocalists of the independent scene of the last 15 years or so.
Tickets to the Croatian premiere performance of The Kills are on sale from 13 April at an early bird price of 120 kuna. That price is valid until 14 May, after which it goes up to 140 kuna. If there are still tickets available on the day of the concert they will be on sale at 160 kuna.
Soley, the Icelandic pop nightingale, is coming to Tvornica kulture on 24 May. This multi-instrumentalist and singer will be releasing her third album “Endless Summer” in May which is taking her on a European tour which brings her to Croatia for her premiere performance here. Tickets are on sale at 80 kuna or 100 kuna on the day of the concert.

This time they are visiting Zagreb as part of their big world tour to promote their studio album “Emperor of Sand”. Tickets are on sale at 150 kuna. If there are any left on the day of the concert they will cost 180 kuna.
Ryan Adams, the American singer and multi-talented musician, has a concert in Tvornica kultura on 13 July. In mid-February Adams released “Prisoner”, his 16th studio album. This talented musician, lover of poetry, cats, pinball, metal and American hardcore on this tour will be performing for the first time in this region, right here in Zagreb. At the Šalata sport and recreation centre on 26 June Prophets of Rage are playing, comprised of three quarters of Rage Against the Machine, Chuck D and DJ Lord from Public Enemy as well as B Real from Cypress Hill. That same evening they will be joined by cult hip hop trio House of Pain and the young British post rock quartet Black Peaks. One day later, at the same place there will be a new concert extravaganza. After eight long years The Cult are coming back to Zagreb. They are the unquestionable darlings of the Croatian crowd, a British rock institution and one of the greatest rock banks from the 1980s till today. After their last Zagreb concert, a sellout of the Small Hall at Dom sportova, Ian Astbury and his lads will be playing at a big open air concert in Zagreb for the first time. “She Sells Sanctuary”, “Rain”, “Fire Woman”, “Sweet Soul Sister”, “Lil’ Devil”, “Wild Flower” and other hits will thunder from Šalata with the same force as they thunder from the mid-1980s till the present day from the greatest concert arenas and almost every rock club on the entire planet.
