Ice Hall: 16th Zagreb Snowflakes Trophy

The 16th Zagreb Snowflakes Trophy, which is expected to gather a record number of participants, will again confirm the importance of Zagreb as an international centre of this sport on ice.

The 16^th Zagreb Snowflakes Trophy, a major international synchronized skating competition for all age groups (seniors, juniors and advanced novices), will be held on 17 and 18 January in the Ice Hall of the Dom Sportova sports hall, organised by the Croatian Skating Federation and the synchronized skating club Zagreb Snowflakes. This year’s competition will gather a record – breaking 42 teams with more than 800 skaters from 10 countries of Europe, America and Australia.

For two decades Zagreb authorities have been organising large international competitions among which fifteen editions of Zagreb Snowflake Trophy so far. So without exaggerating we could say that the capital of Croatia is an important centre of sport on ice in international terms.

In early 2018 Zagreb became the only city in the world in which all world competitions in synchronised skating of the International Skating Union (ISU) were twice. That year, after it hosted two world junior cups and two world senior championships, Zagreb was also the organiser of the World Junior Championship. It should also be noted that in 2021 the capital of Croatia will host the World Senior Championship for the third time. This will make Zagreb equal to the only city to have hosted senior championships three times, Helsinki. It will also become the first city in the world in which five championships in synchronised skating were organised.

The year 2020 will mark the jubilee in which competitions regulated by the International Skating Union will be held in Zagreb for twenty consecutive times. During this period the performances in Dom sportova sports hall have been seen by as many as 129 thousand people.
