Klovićevi dvori Gallery - Vlaho Bukovac in Paris

Some of Bukovac’s most valuable works on display to the Croatian public for the first time.

The Klovićevi dvori Gallery and the Vlaho Bukovac Museum in Cavtat are preparing a three-year exhibition project called “Bukovac in Europe” which will run from 2018 to 2020. Through three separate exhibitions the project will deal with the life of the most significant Croatian painter of the turn of the 20th century andBukovac’s opus through three phases in his life marked by time spent in Paris, Zagreb and Prague.

The exhibition “Vlaho Bukovac in Paris” opens on 18 January 2018 and runs until 11 March 2018. It will cover Bukovac’s life and work in Paris from 1878 to 1892 and his affirmation in England, Montenegro and Serbia as well as the awakening of a Croatian artistic centre in Dalmatia. The authors of the exhibition concept are Petra Vugrinec and Lucija Vuković. Works for the exhibition are arriving from Great Britain, France, Slovenia, Serbia, Vojvodina and Montenegro, and a special attraction of the exhibition is a monumental composition titled “Jesus, Friend of Little Children” from the church of the Franciscan monastery in Tomislavgrad, Herzegovina, measuring an impressive 3 m by 4.40 m, which won a medal at the Paris Salon of 1888. The painting will be on display to the Croatian public for the first time.
