Lonely Planet names Zagreb Best in Europe 2017

Lonely Planet, the leading international travel guide, has named Zagreb the most exciting and best European destination of 2017!

Zagreb is top of the list of destinations which Lonely Planet unreservedly recommends you visit since it offers something new, something exciting and undiscovered!

Listing why Zagreb tops the list of European destinations of the year, the guide highlights how this is a city which is blossoming and should not be overlooked in favour of the long Adriatic coast as visitors often do. Zagreb is at once cosmopolitan and unconventional, a true mixture of sunny Austro-Hungarian squares filled with cafes, a combination of Brutalist architecture, street art and urban regeneration, a city with a rich cultural offering and a lively gastronomic scene to which it has never been easier and cheaper to travel after it this year gained its long awaited new airport.

“From cultural adventure to spectacular scenery, Europe has something to offer every traveller. For Lonely Planet’s Best in Europe 2017 we’ve compiled our hotlist of destinations across the continent to visit this summer, all offering something new, exciting or undiscovered that make them worth exploring right now. Zagreb tops our list because it ticks all of these boxes,” said Tom Hall, Lonely Planet spokesperson.

The other destinations which made the top ten European destinations include Gotland in Sweden, Galicia in Spain, Leeds in the United Kingdom and Pafos in Cyprus.
