The 48th International Puppet Theatre Festival - Puppet Shows for Children and Adults

Between September 14th and 19th, the 48th PIF – International Festival of Puppet Theatres will take place at several locations around the city. Youngsters and adults alike can look forward to a very interesting programme.

Once again, between September 14th and 19th, puppets will again descend upon Zagreb during the 48th PIF – International Festival of Puppet Theatres. On September 11th, the Ethno Art Gallery on Baron Trenk Street will open its door to the exhibition “Puppet, Mask, PIF”, which will feature 60 puppets and masks that were submitted for the 3rd contest for children between the ages of four and fourteen. The authors of the best works will be awarded with tickets to the children’s puppet shows during this year’s edition of PIF.

Like every year, the puppet festival will be announced on September 12th by a traditional parade in the heart of the city. Needless to say, the parade will be headed by Pifko the puppet, who will be followed by many puppets provided by the Puppetry Studio of the Zagreb Youth Theatre, as well as primary school puppetry sections. The Triko Circus Theatre will also participate and drummers will be a part of the parade. Everyone is free to join in the parade.

This year’s edition of the festival will feature puppet shows for children and adults performed by 12 theatres and theatre troupes from Croatia and eight other countries. The shows will take place on the Travno Stage at the Travno Culture Centre, the Zagreb Puppet Theatre, the Dubrava Culture Centre and the Zagreb Dance Centre. The event will also feature puppetry workshops for children and the elderly, various exhibitions, as well as theatre plays at the square of Ban Josip Jelačić, the square of Petar Preradović, and the plateau in front of the Travno Culture Centre, where there will also be screenings of puppetry-based animated films.

The organizer of the PIF – International Festival of Puppet Theatres is the Travno Culture Centre, and more information, including the programme, can be found online at www.pif.hr
