The 65th Boris Hanžeković Memorial - A two-day athletics spectacle
Athletics stars from all over the world will compete at the 65th Boris Hanžeković Memorial which will take place at the stadium of the Mladost Sport Park on September 8th. On the eve of the athletics meet, there will be a shot put contest in a particularly attractive location.
On September 8th, the stadium of the Mladost Sport Park will be the venue for the IAAF World Challenge Meeting Zagreb 2015 – the 65th Boris Hanžeković Memorial. In addition to the Croatian sports stars, such as discus thrower Sandra Perković, high-jumpers Blanka Vlašić and Ana Šimić, the fastest Croatian, Andrea Ivančević, and shot putter Stipe Žunić, this year’s meet in Zagreb will host many other athletes from the world of athletics. The 110 metre hurdles race will feature world champion David Oliver and European champion Sergey Shubenkov, while the pole vault event will feature former world champion Fabiana Murer.
The day before the athletics meet, there will be a shot put contest called the Ivan Ivančić Memorial, dedicated to the legendary Croatian athletics coach who trained the Olympic, world and European discus throw champion – Sandra Perković amongst other athletes. The globally renowned shot putters, Joe Kovacs and Christian Cantwell, have confirmed their participation, as well as the strong Croatian team comprised of Stipe Žunić, Marin Premer, Nedžad Mulatbegović and others. Since the event will take place in the evening hours at an attractive location – next to the fountains in front of the National University Library, we have no doubt it will attract numerous visitors.
A special novelty of the 65th Boris Hanžeković Memorial is that admission to the athletics memorial is free, and tickets can be picked up on September 8th from 9 p.m. at the Mladost Sport Park. This year’s edition of the Hanžeković Memorial will serve to promote the Croatian Caritas humanitarian action – “For a Thousand Joys”. This year it is taking place under the slogan “Everything is Possible”, with the goal of helping families in need. More
