The 66th Boris Hanžeković Memorial - The world’s best athletes compete again

Some of the best athletes in the world will once again compete in the 66th Boris Hanžeković Memorial, and one day before the Zagreb event there will also be a spectacular shot put competition at the fountains in front of the National University Library.

On September 6th, the stadium of the Mladost Sports and Recreation Centre will be the venue for the IAAF World Challenge Zagreb 2016 – or the 66th Boris Hanžeković Memorial. Once again, this year, the event will feature some of the most renowned names from the world of athletics who will compete for the title of the best in seventeen disciplines. Traditionally, most of the best and most decorated athletes will partake in the 110 metre hurdle race, as well as the 100 and 200 metre races, which makes these the most attractive events. However, the local audience will surely look forward to the discus throw, high jump and shot put events, as well as the 100 metres hurdles race, in which Croatia has globally renowned competitors. One of the greatest among them is discus thrower Sandra Perković, who won the gold medal at the Rio De Janeiro Olympics, having become the second athlete in history to defend the discus throw Olympic gold.

The day before this athletic event a spectacular shot put competition named the Ivan Ivančić Memorial will be held. Taking place for the second time, this year the competition will feature the world’s best shot putters. Since it will take place in the evening hours in an attractive location – at the fountains in front of the National University Library, it will surely once again attract numerous spectators. The attractive sporting events in Zagreb will be broadcast live to 70 countries worldwide.

Like last year, admission to the 66th Boris Hanžeković Memorial will be free, but there is always major interest in this sports event so make sure to get your free tickets on time. Tickets will be available as of September 3rd at the SRC Mladost ticket office. More information about the Zagreb athletics meet can be found online at www.zagreb-meeting.com.
