The alt-country scene - Giant Sand at Močvara

On November 30th, five years after their first performance at the Močvara Club, the American band Giant Sand will once again hold a concert at the aforementioned venue as part of a tour that marks 30 years of the group’s existence and promotes their latest album – “Heartbreak Pass”.

After five years, on November 30^th, the Močvara Club will once again be the venue for a concert by Giant Sand, the American band led by its main songwriter and one of the founders, Howe Gelb. This time around the band will perform as part of their tour marking the 30^th anniversary of the band’s existence and promoting their latest studio album – “Heartbreak Pass”, said to be among the band’s best. Apart from Gelb’s desert stomping grounds of Tucson, Arizona, it was recorded in Canada, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and even Croatia. The album features many guest performers, such as Jason Lytle (Granddaddy), John Parish (PJ Harvey) and Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth), while the fantastic Croatian singer, Dunja Ercegović of the Lovely Quinces, appears in a duet with Gelb performing the excellent song Hurtin’ Habit.

As one of the most renowned members of the new American alt-country scene, Howe Gleb has discovered numerous musicians, including Joey Burns and John Convertino (Calexico), who were Giant Sand members during the 1990s. The band has worked with many other renowned musicians, such as Victoria Williams, Neko Case, Juliana Hatfield, Vic Chesnutt, Isobel Campbell and many others, all of whom have left a deep mark on Giant Sand’s huge discography.
