The best in Europe - Advent in Zagreb begins!

A diverse programme, with an array of novelties, has once again been prepared for this year’s Advent in Zagreb, which gained Croatia’s capital the status of the best Christmas destination in Europe last year. It has been announced that this year’s event will be even more magical.

The best Advent in Europe begins on Saturday, November 26, and will last till, January 8, 2017, together with the New Year's events. On Saturday, there will be the official openings of Advent on Zrinjevac, Advent on the European Square, the Ice Park at Tomislav Square, Fooling around, Zagreb's Christmas Fairytale, and others. Zagreb Tourist Board with its partners prepared new programs for its visitors and citizens which include Advent in the Upper Town with the Zagreb's Courtyards – Advent style, Advent on the Vranyczany Plateau, Advent on Stross and Advent at the Klovićevi Dvori Gallery. Also, this year Advent events come to New Zagreb where will be: New Advent and Ice tale of Santa Claus. There are other novelties such as Fashion Advent, Advent in the Design District, At Rudolph's and Advent in the Tunnel; and there are traditional programs such as: Live nativity scene, ArtOmat, Concerts from Zagreb Christmas balconies, festive programs in MUO, Croatian National Theatre and Ethnographic Museum and, of course, Advent and the New Year on the main square. Advent in Zagreb is the most important event in our capital, and in the last two years the number of visitors increased for 50%. In fact, according to the Zagreb Tourist Board, in 2013 there were 45,393 arrivals and 82,284 overnight stays, while last year in December there were 70,550 arrivals and 123,734 overnight stays. In addition, Zagreb Advent was awarded the prize for best tourism event at the Days of Croatian Tourism held last week and, as the winner of the European Best Christmas Destination, this year it will have a chance to defend the title from December 2 to December 12.
