The International Folklore Festival - 50 years of indigenous song and dance

This year’s International Folklore Festival will mark its 50th jubilee with celebratory performances by numerous folklore ensembles from Croatia and abroad.

The International Folklore Festival celebrates its 50th birthday this year. Its jubilee programme will focus on the role that folklore festivals have played throughout Croatia’s history, but also on the changes that this particular folklore event has undergone over the last five decades.

Apart from performances by folklore ensembles and individuals who will present the diversity of the Croatian ethnographic heritage through dance and music folklore, attire and customs, this year’s folklore festival will also feature performances by representatives of national minorities, Croats from neighbouring countries, emigrants and the old Croatian diaspora. Apart from them, ten other folklore ensembles from abroad will present the heritage of other peoples and cultures.

The International Folklore Festival will take place between July 20th and 24th, and will feature performances at the Square of Ban Josip Jelačić, Gradec and Catherine’s Square in the Upper Town. Apart from song and dance routines performed by the folklore ensembles, the event will also feature concerts of world and traditional music, a ceremony to mark the 50th jubilee at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall, as well as various dance workshops, etc.
