The Zagreb Zoo - Visit the Abracadabra Zoo!

The Maksimir Zoo will once again be a place of magic because Abracadabra Zoo – an educational programme which introduces children to the world of Croatian fairy-tales and legends, begins on October 5th. The programme features a stage-like performance aimed at teaching children that the greatest values are in our hearts.

Once again this autumn, on October 5th, the Abracadabra Zoo programme will transform the Zagreb Zoo into a place of mythological stories. The educational programme prepared by the always attractive Zoo is aimed at the youngest generations, and it will introduce children to the world of Croatian fairy-tales and legends, as well as teach them certain values through a stage-like performance. The programme, which will go on until the end of October, begins with a night stroll through the Zoo with lanterns in hand, along with guidance from the good-natured and somewhat timid witch - Maksimirska Coprnica (the Sorceress of Maksimir). Children will have the opportunity to get to know various other fairy-tales, legends and mythological characters from Croatia’s past, some of which will be good-natured, while others might be a little bit evil. However, all those who participate in the night walk will be protected by an eternal light which will protect them from darkness and evil. On the journey through the mythological garden, as of this year under the rule of the evil god of darkness – Črnobog, good children who carry light in their hearts must save the entire Zoo. Afterwards, the children will visit the Zoo’s pavilions, where they will have the opportunity to meet nocturnal animals and learn many other things. Therefore, make sure to take your children to Maksimir, and let them discover what the Zoo has in store for them this year.

The programme lasts three hours and it is designed for two groups. Each group can consist of a maximum of 26 people. The first group embarks on the tour at 6.15 p.m., while the second group begins its tour at 8.15 p.m. The programme is aimed at families with children over the age of five, while children under ten years old must be accompanied by an adult. Ticket prices are 35 kuna for children under 14, and 60 kuna for adults. They can be purchased at the Zoo educators’ office on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., as well as reserved by phone (01/7788 534), or via email at edukacija@zoo.hr.
