Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall: A String of Concerts Continues
This year the birthday celebration of Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall will be different than before but there are plenty reasons to be optimistic.
In early November Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall reopened its door after a seven-month break caused by the damage it suffered during the earthquake in Zagreb on 22 March this year.
Reopening of the concert season was celebrated with the performance of a renowned pianist Martha Argerich, followed by two concerts by famous pianist Ivo Pogorelić and other artists. Their performances contributed to the dynamics of Zagreb’s cultural scene, of course in line with epidemiological measures.
In a span of almost half a century numerous music, dance and drama shows, performed by some of the best world and Croatian soloists, orchestras and ensembles, were held in Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall which will mark 47 years since its opening on 29 December. Since the opening the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, la Scala Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra from London have performed on its stage, the ensembles were conducted by Leonard Bernstein, Lovro von Matačić, Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel, Valerij Gergiev an many other greats of the music scene who added variety to the cultural life of Zagreb and Croatia with their performances. This impressive string will be continued next year in which many concerts and plays have been scheduled and which will surely be sold out as many times before.
The concert hall was named after Vatroslav Lisinski (Zagreb, 1819 -1854), the composer of the first Croatian opera “Love and Malice”. He is also considered the founder of the modern Croatian opera, solo song, choral and orchestral music.
