World Festival of Animated Film – Animafest Zagreb

The 27th World Festival of Animated Film, Animafest Zagreb 2017 will, with its varied and rich programme, from 5 to 10 June transform Zagreb once again into the world's epicentre of artistic animation.

Of more than 1600 films which were received from 76 countries, 44 have been chosen for the Grand Competition (Short Film) and 46 for the Student Short Film Competition, as well as 9 for the feature length film competition. The organisers are particularly proud of the Croatian films at this year's festival. The public will have the chance to see the film “The Hedgehog's House” by director Eva Cvijanović, an adaptation of the well known poem by Branko Ćopić which recently won an award at the Berlinale. It is also worth paying attention to the new feature films by Oscar and Animafest winner Michaël Dudok de Wit, Bill Plympton and Jean-François Laguionie, while respected animators Aleksej Aleksejev, Stéphane Aubier and the Oscar-nominated Dutch studio Job, Joris and Marieke will also be showing their work.

As well as the competition programmes, Animafest also offers the audience numerous thematic, supporting and special programmes and events. One of the central themes is the relationship between comic strips and animation.

However, Animafest is not only a festival for fans of and professionals in animated film, it is also a true family festival where the youngest audiences and their parents can enjoy film appropriate for their age as well as numerous open air activities. There is the Animafest Open Air Zagreb family cinema picnic, where parents and children can enjoy the festival atmosphere in the city's most beautiful parks even before Animafest officially opens. Big news this year is animacycling along the city streets. This is a two-hour bike ride at dusk, in a column led by quad bikes with equipment for mobile projection. This cultural and recreational activity will transform the whole city into an Animafest screen. An additional programme will also be at the new location Art Park, and as well as the usual locations at the Europa and Tuškanac cinemas Animafest 2017 screenings will also take place at the new Kinoteka.

Festival passes are on sale at 150 kn.
