January 2007

Dear friends!
The pace of events in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, is becoming faster and faster. Cultural and sport events, as well as the continuous efforts to widen Zagreb's offer, are changing the tourist image of the city. This is also shown by statistics: in certain months of the last year tourist trade recorded year-on-year growth rates of as much as 30 percent. New events and programmes, as well as the exceptional increase in the interest seen in the popularity of the Zagreb Tourist Board web sites, show not only that this growth is not accidental, but also that it will continue at an even higher rate.

Samobor
Let's go to the masquerade!
For the 181st time the little town of Samobor turns into a large stage of Samobor Carnival ("fašnik"), held from 9 to 20 February. The symbolic farewell to winter, which has, this year, not shown its true face in these regions yet, is also an occasion for a strong social satire. Under the mask one speaks about the social reality, particularly about political and other intrigues, with more ease, in a more critical manner and - more openly.

Signalization
New signposts for tourists
With the installation of 810 signposts at 142 locations in the city of Zagreb, the project of new signpost signalization has been completed. The first phase of the project of installing tourist and signpost signalization relating to hotels is near to completion. A visit to Zagreb cultural and tourist attractions is now simpler, more informative and interesting than before...
European young adults meeting
40.000 believers visited Zagreb
At the end of December and beginning of January Zagreb hosted the European young adults meeting. The Ecumenical Community of Taizé in France, which organizes such meetings every year in European cities, has praised this meeting as one of the best thanks to the extremely warm welcome and hospitality of host families.
