Maksimir Park - Observation deck

It took a bit over 11,577 forint to construct the Belvedere.

The Belvedere is the central building in Maksimir Park, also known as the Kiosk. It was constructed in the period from 1841 to 1843, while Haulik was the Archbishop. Located on a hill at the end of the central path, it is the most notable building, the center where all other paths branch from. The park’s main parts are grouped around it. The Belvedere is 17 meters high, with a porch on the ground floor, a large terrace of the first floor and a smaller one on the third. On each level of the building there is a small room, and on the second floor there’s a room where Haulik spent his leisure time. Nowadays, there is a restaurant on the ground floor, and due to its particular position and purpose, it represents an ideal backdrop for the staging of scenes for the film industry. That’s why the cult classic Tko pjeva zlo ne misli (One Song a Day Takes Mischief Away) was filmed here in 1970, one of the most watched Croatian movies even today.

I am looking forward to Zagreb as a destination where I always feel good. It seems it has been too long since the last time I was here, although it was just a year or so.

Jesse Eisenberg

Jesse Eisenberg (actor) spent the autumn in Zagreb in 2007: Zagreb is an incredible town. I enjoyed sightseeing the old parts of the town, and at night I went to clubs. I was thrilled that it was near Austria and Italy, so I visited Venice, Milan, Ljubljana, Graz, Split... over the weekends.
