10th Summer at MSU: Complete Artistic Experience

This year, anniversary edition of Summer at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MSU) brings an overview of contemporary artistic events on Croatian and foreign scene in its rich programme.

The 10th edition of Summer at MSU will take place from 16 June to 14 July 2023. A multi – media 4-in-1 recipe in its jubilee edition will offer visitors a series of concerts, exhibitions, films and dance acts. Summer at MSU brings an overview of current artistic events as well as new discoveries on the multi – disciplinary scene of Zagreb, Croatia, region and the world.

During the ten years of Summer at MSU, more than 164 different events took place – 52 concerts, 51 screenings, 36 performances, 15 large exhibitions, and 12 literary discussions as well as numerous guest performances of various foreign theatre troupes. More than 40 thousand visitors attended these events.

The programmes of the event, which is defined as an urban blend of contemporary art and popular culture, traditionally take place in the afternoons and evenings in June and July. The programme encompasses concerts of the best bands in the region, screenings of the best European art films while dance troupes perform within the dance cycle entitled Antisezona. Also, this year there is a large exhibition Budućnosti which introduces excellent Croatian and international contemporary artists. The intention of this blend of different forms of artistic expression, is for Summer at MSU to get closer to the notion of Gesamtkunstwerk, a complete artistic experience which is the result of cooperation between different forms of art and pop culture and their introduction to wider audience.

The Museum of Contemporary Art was founded in 1953 and in late 2009 it moved from the city centre to a purpose – built building in Novi Zagreb. It houses 12 thousand contemporary art pieces of Croatian and foreign artists organised in collections.
