A hundred films in eight programs

For the 10th year in a row, a selection of the best debut films by filmmakers from all over the world will once again enthral audiences at the Zagreb Film Festival, which will take place between 14 and 21 October at several locations around the city. The festival will feature eight different programs and about 100 films, including some very special treats.

The jubilee 10th edition of the Zagreb film festival, which is scheduled to take place between 14 and 21 October, will present very special film treats – a selection of the best debut films by filmmakers from across the globe!

This year’s edition of the festival will feature eight programmes, including three new ones – a spy film cycle, a retrospective by the renowned Michael Glawogger, who will also be a guest at the festival, and the program called My Third Film. Only first and second films by individual directors may be considered debuts. The My Third Film programme will feature screenings of films by directors who have already had their debuts in previous editions of the festival.

During the eight days of the festival, and as many programmes, the audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy about 100 films at several locations around the city: the cinemas Europa and Tuškanac, the Zagreb Dance Centre, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and a new location – the Grič cinema, where a selection of films from independent documentary production will be screened.

Among the many films are some very special treats. One of them, although we do not want to reveal too much, is the Icelandic film Volcano by Rúnar Rúnarsson, which has already won 14 awards at festivals worldwide.

A faithful audience, which already knows the festival repertoire well, is once again eagerly awaiting the main competitive programme that includes eleven feature films, ten shorts, and fifteen documentaries.

The documentary program will feature, among others, films about conceptual art, including one about the renowned Serbian artist Marina Abramović, whose performance once enthralled visitors of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

The Cubes program, which is also competitive, will once again present debut films by Croatian filmmakers.

he rest of the programme is similar to previous years – Bib for Kids featuring films for children; My First Film, featuring a selection of five debut films by well established directors; and the Great 5, featuring five of the most contemporary films from Spain, France, Italy, Great Britain and Germany.

Apart from films, this year’s festival will also feature a diverse concurrent program, including various promotions and educational workshops.
