A procession of classic cars in the city centre
If you are a fan of classic cars, make sure to experience the atmosphere of the 5th Oldschool Rally Zagreb, a large procession of classic cars, which will pass through the city centre on October 22nd. The rally will also feature various events in other locations, such as speed challenges, etc. (more)
For the fifth year in a row, Croatia’s capital will once again host the Oldschool Rally Zagreb: a procession of numerous classic cars, which will pass through the city centre. The rally is taking place on October 22nd and the procession will depart at 11 a.m. from the plateau at Kockica (The Cube – the building at Prisavlje 14). It will then proceed down Savska Street, Zeleni val, towards Džamija (the Mosque), via Zvonimirova Street and Šubićeva Street, towards the bridge in Jakuševac, across Sajmišna Street, and on to Mićevac: its final destination, which is located on the road to Velika Gorica. At the finish, visitors will have an opportunity to view all of the cars that are participating in the rally, as well as have their photographs taken next to the cars.
Later on, there will be a presentation of numerous car clubs and each of them will have a special, fenced-off area in which visitors will have an opportunity to inspect the cars, review specialist literature, view numerous photo albums of classic cars, purchase souvenirs, watch various films and videos, as well as buy refreshments and snacks. As of 2 p.m., in the spirit of classic car promotion, all of the car clubs will be given an opportunity to individually present themselves to the public. Numerous clubs will be taking part, including: the Buba Klub Zagreb (VW Beetle Club), Citroen Klub Croatia, Fićo Fan Klub, Mini Klub Zagreb, MZ Forum, Oldschool Forum, Solex Klub Spori jahači (Slow riders), Vespa Klub Zagreb, VW Kombi Forum…
All of this will be an introduction to the most important event of the day: the 1st Grand Prix “Ferdinand Budicki” (1871-1951), in honour of the pioneer of Croatian motorsport. The competition will require each participant to drive one lap in a speed challenge, and hope for the fastest time. This will enable visitors to enjoy an undisturbed view of all cars, as well as identify and support their favourites.
Aside from the “Ferdinand Budicki” Grand Prix, the 5th Oldschool Rally Zagreb will feature several other anniversaries: 110 years since Ferdinand Budicki brought the first car to Zagreb, the 60th anniversary of his death, and the 105th anniversary of the foundation of the Croatian Auto Club. To mark these occasions, the administration building at Mićevac will feature an exhibition of more than 50 (yet unseen) photographs concerning the aforementioned anniversaries. These photographs will form the content of a book about the development of car culture in Croatia between 1898 and 1939, which will be published next year.
