A Week For Film Buffs – Zagreb Film Festival
Zagreb Film Festival for the 16th time this year brings us the best from the world of film.
An unmissable destination for the city’s film buffs and fans of art and culture, the Zagreb Film Festival will be held for the 16th time from 11 to 18 November at the usual locations: Kino Europa, Kino Tuškanac, the Museum of Contemporary Art, F22 – Nova akademska scena and the Müller hall, as well as 15 other locations throughout Croatia. Big news at this year’s Festival is it is broadening its reach through the programme ZFF Travels. So, the Zagreb Film Festival this year will arrive in 16 cities across Croatia.
The main competition programme will provide an overview of the most interesting recent debut or other films from directors from all over the world. Croatian short film is represented in the Kockice competition programme, and visitors this year can expect a whole series of accompanying events as well as INDUSTRIJA, a programme for professionals. Some of the films competing for this year’s Golden Pram are: Benedict Erlingsson with the film “Women at War”, an action comedy in which a rural environmental activist who, armed with a bow and arrow, rages at the local aluminium industry. There is also the Brazilian-Uruguayan co-production “Loveling” by director Gustavo Pizzi, a warm human drama about the chaotic life of a middle-class Brazilian family, while the British romantic comedy “Old Boys” directed by Toby McDonald is a modern version of the tale of Cyrano de Bergerac with Alex Lawther in the leading role.
The PSSST! Festival of Silent Film provides a kind of overture to the Zagreb Film Festival, and runs from 8 to 10 November in the Trešnjevka Cultural Centre.
