An Artistic Autumn – Exceptional Exhibitions in Zagreb's Museums and Galleries

Sensational works by Vlaho Bukovac; a retrospective of Nevenka Arbanas and the best of Croatian sculpture are just part of the rich offering from Zagreb's museums and galleries.

Vlaho Bukovac and Alexandre Cabanel – a historic encounter of pupil and teacher! In the year in which Zagreb's Art Pavilion celebrates the 120^thanniversary of its founding the central exhibition is dedicated to Vlaho Bukovac, Croatia's most celebrated painter. The exhibition will encompass his masterpieces, and his most sought-after work for decades, the long-lost “Potiphar’s Wife”, has arrived for this exhibition, indisputably creating a sensation. Alongside Bukovac’s works paintings by his Parisian professor, Alexandre Cabanel, will be on show. This exhibition in the Art Pavilion will give the public, art experts and the media a clear picture of how the “teacher” influenced the “student”. The exhibition is open from 3 October 2018 to 6 January 2019.

In the Klovićevi dvori Gallery from 4 October to 18 November there will be a retrospective of works by Croatian graphic artist and professor Nevenka Arbanas. The curators have prepared a selection of some 350 works with a focus on large format graphics.

The 13^th triennial of Croatian sculpture opened on 20 September and runs until 11 November. This year’s exhibition presents work by 107 artists and a solo exhibition by Neven Bilić, winner of the Grand Prize in the last Triennial. The great response to the competition for the XIII triennial of Croatian sculpture is a guarantee that the exhibition will provide a relevant overview of sculpture over the last three years.
