An exhibition of Croatian Easter eggs in front of the Cathedral

Zagreb Tourist Board has teamed up with the Tourist Board of Koprivnica and Križevci County to organize an exhibition of large Croatian Easter eggs. The collection will be exhibited in front of the Zagreb Cathedral from 3rd April to 2nd May.

Once again this year, the Zagreb Tourist Board will mark the biggest Catholic holiday, Easter, with an exhibition of decorated Easter eggs. The exhibition, entitled «Easter Eggs from the Heart» will be set up together with the Tourist Board of Koprivnica and Križevci County in front of the Zagreb Cathedral. The large Croatian Easter eggs are a symbol of love and the joy of Easter. Once again, they will certainly delight many citizens of Zagreb and their numerous guests. The exhibition will be open from 3rd April through 2nd May

This year, the decorated eggs come from Kloštar Podravski (The Association of Kloštar Palette), Ðurđevac, Molve, Hlebine (The Association of painters and sculptors of Hlebine) and the Podravka Association of Naive Artists. All the eggs are made from Plexiglas; they are 2.05 meters tall, 1.05 meters wide and together with their stands, each weighs 120 kilos.

As a reminder, the large Croatian Easter eggs decorated with motifs taken from Croatian naïve art promote Croatian cultural heritage in metropolises across the globe. So far, they have been exhibited in Spain, Austria, New York and many other places where they have grabbed undivided attention with their unique appearance. Last year, a large Croatian Easter egg was given to Pope Benedict XVI in Vatican.

Besides the exhibition of the large Easter eggs, Zagreb Tourist Board also organizes an evening of traditional Easter folk customs. This is to take place on 25th April at the Komedija Theatre, starting at 7 o'clock P.M. On the night, the audience will enjoy folk singing and dancing from all parts of Croatia.
