Club Žedno Uho (Thirsty Ear) complements the Klovićevi Dvori Gallery
Zagreb’s well-known Klovićevi Dvori Gallery, located in the Upper Town, gained considerable cultural reinforcement last month in the form of a club, Žedno Uho, which was opened in the same space. The club’s mission, just like the gallery’s mission, is to present the best contemporary musicians/artists to its visitors.
In February, Zagreb got its newest art venue, the only of its kind in the entire city; the Žedno Uho club, opened within the space occupied by the renowned Klovićevi Dvori Gallery. By blending two artistic forms of expression - a gallery and club, a synergy of high quality artistic offer was created, because the club, just like the gallery, will feature performances by only the best artists from the Croatian and global music scene. This does not mean the most expensive performers, but the most exquisite musicians of various styles who will meet the high criteria of various urban, national, cultural and sub-cultural music genres.
Apart from concerts, the club will also host various seminars and workshops relating to music and multimedia, all in order to give young people the opportunity to enjoy different music performances, unlike the commercial ones most frequently featured in other clubs.
Bands and singer songwriters who will play their music at the Žedno Uho club will have to meet the music quality criteria and the club’s programme will cover a wide spectre of worldwide music genres.
The head of the entire program is Mate Škugor, who has brought more than a thousand globally renowned bands to Croatia over the past fifteen years. He is also responsible for organizing two renowned festivals – the Žedno Uho Festival and the No Jazz Festival. Another partner of the club is Nenad Borović, an experienced promoter who mostly works on bringing bands from the margins of the global music scene.
Zagreb’s new club, Žedno Uho, will occasionally present very influential musicians, bands and DJs from all over the world to its patrons, while on other days it will offer an excellent clubbing program based on the 1970s and 1980s. Since one of the club’s main goals is to provide quality entertainment to its guests, the regular programme is also sure to attract many visitors who are not as interested in contemporary commercial music.
With that in mind, the club management has meticulously chosen local DJs who fit that description and possess the necessary quality. One of the resident Friday DJs is Matt Devais, an Englishman living in Zagreb who is known for his quite extensive collection of jazz, funk and soul music records. Apart from Matt, Fridays will feature sets by Mr. Brown Sugar, a passionate vinyl collector and excellent DJ who entertained the listeners of his show on radio Trsat with funk, soul, jazz, blues and hip-hop rhythms.
A more modern audience, with a preference for electronic music, will also have the opportunity to enjoy quality tunes by the best DJs and aficionados of modern, urban club music. The director of the electronic music program is Eddy Ramich, a known producer, DJ and event promoter from Zagreb, who has great experience in the music business. Besides that, he is one of the key figures of the electronic music scene in central and southeast Europe, and has gained international fame with numerous acclaimed remixes.
Apart from the aforementioned programmes, fans of the popular and less popular rock and roll scene will also have a reason to visit the club thanks to Andrija Škare and Ivan Miholčić, who follow the modern independent rock scene all over the world.
The club is open on Fridays and Saturdays between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m. It has a capacity for 200 to 250 people.
