Concert Treats in Lisinski – Royal Concertgebouw at Lisinski, Lado ensemble in the Croatian National Theatre
With a wealth of concerts this November Zagreb is a mecca for classical music fans.
On Saturday 17 November in the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall, the ensemble of the Music Academy led by American conductor Franz Anton Krager will perform a series of works by American composers, from Samuel Barber and Leonard Bernstein to a selection of pieces by Sigmund Romberg. Croatia has a special connection with Romberg since he spent his childhood and youth in the town of Belišće.
A concert by one of the most famous, most important and most accomplished global symphony orchestras, Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw, conducted by the renowned and versatile Philippe Herreweghe, is one of the highlights of the Lisinski on Saturdays concert season. This is a uniquely prestigious orchestra which performs for more than 250,000 people each year, and it is performing at Lisinski on 24 November.
The Lado Ensembe is also performing at the Croatian National Theatre in November. The dance concert Antologija II on 16 November offers us a treat, some of the best-known pieces from repertoires spanning decades from ensembles such as the Slavonian Queens, the Valpovo Kolo, Posavina Dances and Linđo.
In the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall on 26 November the Lado National Dance Ensemble and the Kolo National Dance and Song Ensemble of Serbia are presenting a joint programme, Hand in Hand 2.0. In a programme lasting two hours, more than 100 artists will showcase some of the most beautiful traditional dances, songs and music from Serbia and Croatia.
