Crème de la Crème of Athletics in Zagreb – The Hanžeković Memorial
World and European record holders in athletics visit one of the most prominent athletics meetings in the world, the Hanžeković Memorial.
The list of participants already guarantees that the 68th Hanžeković Memorial, to be held on 3 and 4 September, will confirm its place as one of the best athletics meetings in the world. Among others coming to Zagreb will be Ramil Guliyev, World and European 200 m sprint champion; the Ingebritsen brothers who will be racing against current World champion Elijah Manangoi in the 1500 m; while the winners of first and second place in the European Championships in Berlin will be pitted against each other in the Memorial 110 m hurdles. Croatian record breaker Andrea Ivančević will be running in the hurdles against the three first-placed competitors in the European Championships, while in the pole vault three men who can vault over six metres will be competing. The fastest woman in the world, Marie-Josée Ta Lou, will be running in the 100 m sprint.
The Ivan Ivančić Memorial will bring the crème de la crème of international shot put to the circle among the fountains. On the starting lineup there are 14 of the best shot putters in the world, including Croatian competitor Stipe Žunić, winner of the bronze in last year’s World Championships. And of course, there is the unparalleled record-breaker, our very own Croatian discus thrower Sandra Perković. European silver medal winner Nadine Müller and Cuban Yaimé Pérez will be trying to topple her from the throne.
The fact that last year the Hanžeković Memorial was broadcast to 85 countries testifies to how attractive this event is. So, let’s all head for Hanžek! This year entry to the Mladost sports ground on the River Sava is free.
