Dear citizens and guests of Zagreb!
The magnificent Advent in Zagreb has successfully and proudly defended the title of the best Christmas destination in Europe. Once again, it was internationally recognised and acknowledged as the best choice for a Christmas trip, leaving behind traditional go-to Advent destinations, such as Vienna, Paris, Berlin and Salzburg. You still have one more week to visit one of the 29 locations and see for yourself why our city truly is special and why it is visited by increasing numbers of guests from all over the world.
For years now, January in Zagreb has been marked by the races of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup - Snow Queen Trophy. After last year’s cancellation, the event is returning to Sljeme to the sheer delight of both spectators and participants. Since the first race, which was held in 2005, until today, the Zagreb races have been among the most watched competitions of the World Ski Cup. The SQT races are special for many reasons: Zagreb is the only capital city that hosts a race of the World Ski Cup; SQT winners are crowned and proclaimed snow queen and king, while the atmosphere is praised by the best skiers in the world – who compete at Sljeme, as well as all visitors and spectators. I invite you to come again this year and help us defend the title of the loudest and most cheerful hosts, especially this year when the event will be even greater because of a competition of overall FIS World Cup winners, including Janica and Ivica Kostelić, which will take place in the city centre!
Apart from the SQT races, there are other world-class entertainment opportunities to be found in Zagreb! After Split’s summer edition, the spectacular New Year’s celebration Ultra Europe has put Zagreb on the map of global tourism destinations, attracting visitors with a spectacular production and a seven-day programme at Arena Zagreb. We expect record breaking tourist arrivals and international promotion, so I am inviting you to join in and proudly enjoy all of the amenities we have prepared for you!
Yours sincerely,
Milan Bandić
Mayor of Zagreb
