Easter in Zagreb: Entire Week in Festive Mood

Easter day and the entire week surrounding Easter will be festive in Zagreb. The city awaits you with concerts, festive atmosphere and traditional gastro offer as well as colourful parks to mark spring that has just started.

Many interesting holiday activities which will make your stay in Zagreb eventful await you on Easter and during the entire week surrounding it. Easter morning will be marked by customs such as the traditional breakfast, attending mass and sightseeing around the city decorated to honour the principal festival of the Christian church. On your walk around the city, make sure to visit the area in front of the cathedral which has been ornated with Easter symbols.

On Easter evening Zagreb quartet, the oldest chamber ensemble in Croatia which has been active for 104 years, will hold a concert in the Greek Catholic Co-cathedral of Saints Cyril and Methodius.

On Easter Monday in the area in front of the cathedral an attractive, historical changing of the Guard of Honour by the Cravat Regiment will take place. On the same day at 12:30, LADO, the National Folk Dance Ensemble of Croatia which has been active for 74 years, will give a concert of Croatian Easter folk song entitled “The Joy Is Great” in the Liturgical space of the Blessed Alojzije Stepinac.

At 20.00 on Tuesday, 11 April, Zagreb Quartet will hold a programme entitled “Easter with Zagreb Quartet” in the Museum of the City of Zagreb. A day after that, at 19.00 a concert entitled “Easter in Zagreb” will be held in the Church of St. Quirinus in the Pantovčak city district, organised by the Croatian Music Centre. Their mission is to support and promote Croatian music, among other tasks.

On the first Sunday after Easter, also known as Divine Mercy Sunday, at 17.00 in the romantic Zrinjevac Park, there will be a unique and passionate music trip around Istria and the Mediterranean held for the citizens and visitors of Zagreb. The performers are singer-songwriter Tamara Obrovac and her international band Transhistria Ensemble who combine contemporary jazz with elements of Istrian and Mediterranean music in a unique way. On the same day at 19.00, Easter concert of the Chamber Choir Ivan Filipović, one of the best Croatian a cappella ensembles which has been active for a quarter of century, will take place in the Church of Saint Francis Xavier.

All the programmes mentioned have been realised in cooperation with the Zagreb Tourist Bord. They are a token of welcome and a holiday present to visitors and citizens of Zagreb.
