Growth Continues
Zagreb keeps on recording an increasing number of visitors every month. They have recognized the capital city of Croatia as a year-round attractive tourist destination. This September, the number of tourists was 15 per cent higher than in the same month last year.
In the month of September alone, Zagreb was visited by over 70,000 tourists who accounted for over 125,000 overnights. Of the total number of tourists who visited Zagreb, 56,000 were foreigners, who accounted for nearly 100,000 overnights. Thus, the number of foreign arrivals and overnights was 16 per cent and 21 per cent higher, respectively, than in September 2006.
German tourists were the leaders (accounting for approximately one tenth of the total number of foreign guests). They were followed by tourists from the USA, France, Spain and Italy. Guests from the USA accounted for the highest number of overnights (approximately 10,000).
According to the statistical data of the Tourist Board of the City of Zagreb, during the first nine months of this year, Zagreb received over 460,000 tourists who accounted for slightly less than 850,000 overnights. As a result, the nine-month period of this year recorded a 15 per cent increase in the number of arrivals and an 11 per cent increase in the number of overnights.
The increased number of tourists is certainly due to the fact that Zagreb's tourist offer is getting richer by the year. In addition to sightseeing tours of the city which abounds in cultural and historical wealth, an increasing number of tourists are attracted by the various festivals, cultural, sporting and other events, as well as by congresses and business gatherings.
