The 25th Music Biennale Zagreb will take place from April 17th to 26th. The theme of this year's festival is “Art – Politics”. The festival will be held at a total of 11 locations around the city, including the Croatian National Theater, the City Drama Theater Gavella, Mimara Museum, the large and small halls at Vatroslav Lisinski Music Hall, the Zagreb Puppet Theater, the Zagreb Youth Theater, the Zagreb Comedy Theater, the Arts and Crafts Museum, the ITD Theater and the MM Center at the Student Center. The program will encompass 36 pieces, ranging from stage music to chamber and symphony concerts that have been specially commissioned for the festival.
The Music Biennale Zagreb is an international festival of contemporary music that has been taking place every other year since 1961. From the beginning the festival has attracted major names from the world music scene and very soon become a big event on the international music scene . The festival has never featured the characteristics of a classical festival, but rather it has been a place to present current musical productions from Croatia and the world. Owing to the festival’s reputation, the World Music Days were successfully held during the 21st Music Biennale Zagreb. The Executive Committee of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) has made the decision to once again join these two events in 2011 in Zagreb, which will also coincide with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Music Biennale Zagreb.
