During the last weekend of November the 3rd International Festival of Wine and Culinary Art was organized at The Regent Esplanade Zagreb Hotel. There were more than 800 wines to sample from more than 200 exhibitors. This is the largest wine festival in Croatia whose aim is to promote the culture of wine drinking. It is organized in accordance with a model of famous world events which one can attend by invitation only. There were more than 100 of the best Croatian wineries represented at the festival, as well as producers of prosciutto, cheese, olive oil, kulen (spicy dry-cured sausage) and other tasty delicacies. Along with the numerous presentations and wine tastings, the wine aficionados enjoyed the tastes and smells of archive wines. They could even try a Graševina that was more than 50 years old from the Belje wine cellar in Kneževi Vinogradi. Besides taking pleasure in tasting selected wines, participants could also learn about the modern concepts of oenology and gastronomy in lectures organized for business people, salesmen, sommeliers, caterers, journalists and all the other admirers of good wine.
The festival was jointly organized by the City of Zagreb, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development, the Croatian Chamber of Commerce and the County of Zagreb. This year's country partner was Austria.
