Love, Janis
After a number of legendary shows that have been winning the hearts of audiences in The Komedija Theater for decades, the audiences will certainly also enjoy the recently premiered performance of the musical story “Love, Janis”.
With the premiere of the musical story “Love, Janis”, The Komedija Theater has given us another top class performance that will certainly be enjoyed by audiences of all generations. The show is about the legendary singer Janis Joplin. Through the use of her unforgettable songs, the show paints a picture of the musical life of the singer, but it also uses her letters written to her sister Laura to uncover many intimate details about the singer's life. Her sister Laura published the biography “Love, Janis” in 1992. Randal Myler wrote a drama based on the book which very quickly gained popularity on theatrical stages across America. The show in The Komedija Theater is a musical story about the premature death of the singer with the peculiar voice. This exclusive European production, directed by Lawrence Küru, is the first time this musical has set foot in Europe. The role of Janis was perfectly played by two top class Croatian singers, Marija Borčić and Zdenka Kovačićek. The show also marks the 50th anniversary of the artistic work of the later singer who says that Janis was her role model. The other characters in the show are played by Jasna Palić-Picukarić, Davor Svedružić and Adam Končić, along with the accompaniment of a band of top musicians, including Tomas Krkač, Branko Bogunović-Pif, Neven Mijač, Krešo Randić and Danko Krznarić.
The first performance at The Komedija Theater was on November 19, 1950 and until now there have been a total of 13,000 performances of more than 300 titles. Some of the hits at The Komedija Theater include the musicals Yalta, Yalta, and Fiddler on the Roof, the operettas The Land of Smiles, The Csardasz Princess and Die Fledermaus (Bat), the comedy Kiss Me, Kate and Ball and the rock operas Gubec – Bey and A Witch from Grič.
