Preparations Underway for the Construction of Terme Zagreb
Within the next few years, Zagreb should witness the building of a thermal spa in the area where a geothermal field was discovered in 1976. The estimated cost of the spa's construction is around 50 million Euro and the expected number of visitors is half a million a year.
In the first half of April, the city of Zagreb and INA – the Croatian oil company, signed an agreement on the inception of the Terme Zagreb shareholding company which will specialize in rest and recreation and health tourism in the Blato neighborhood in the western part of New Zagreb. Their first project is a thermal spa with outdoor and indoor pools, a sports center with a polyvalent hall, outdoor sports grounds, bicycle paths and running tracks. In addition, the investors have also announced the construction of a hotel with a large convention center.
Terme Zagreb is to be built in the area of Zagreb's geothermal field for which INA d.d. has a concession and has already drilled 10 boreholes. The temperature of the water is about 80 degrees.
Terme Zagreb should employ a staff of 500 and the expected number of patrons is 500,000 a year, of whom the citizens of Zagreb will account for 80 per cent.
