JarunThe blue flags hoisted at all five beaches of Jarun Lake mark the beginning of yet another swimming season, from mid-June onwards. During this period there is a professional lifeguard service at all of these beaches while beach on Trešnjevka Island is fully equipped with all the necessary facilities for disabled persons, such as: access ramps, special sunbathing recliners, and suitably modified sanitary facilities. There is also a playground for children with developmental difficulties, which features anti-trauma surfaces. Additionally, on the southern side of the Big Lake, there is a unique multi-sensory park for visually-impaired individuals. This multi-sensory park includes numerous sculptures alongside the walkways, which aid orientation and serve as a tactile guideline. The park’s design brings walkers in direct contact with plants that they can touch, smell and even taste! Moreover all facilities, features, pieces of equipment, and plants are marked in Braille, while direction changes are indicated with the different walking surfaces, mobile structures, or different smelling plants.

Apart from clean and tidy beaches, Jarun Lake also boasts a variety of sporting fields, adapted to the recreational needs of everyone ranging from children to adults. The windsurfing clubs “Surfmania” and “KJD Zagreb” will be giving free windsurfing lessons to primary and high-school students until August 10th. However, there are also plenty of other opportunities for fun and entertainment available to youngsters in the nearby areas: there are numerous sport clubs at Jarun, where one can rent roller-blades or bicycles and even join the roller-blading school, while all along the regatta lanes, on several of Jarun’s islands and beaches, there is an abundance of cafes, restaurants, and clubs that remain open until the early-morning hours. Thus, Jarun is not only attractive and fun during the day but also at night, which entices an increasing number of foreign guests. On that note, top Macedonian guitarist Vlatko Stefanofski and his band Trio, which is comprised of Gjoko Maksimovski playing the bass guitar and Dejan Mirosavljević on the drums, will perform at the Aquarius club on July 29th. They will be backed by Dutch guitarist Jan Akkerman, who is widely regarded as the musician who introduced the music of the Middle-Ages into the modern melody.
