Slopey opens doors for persons with disability

Simple, portable Slopey ramps, devised by the first tourist agency specialized for persons with disabilities – TravAbled, provide easier access for disabled individuals to previously inaccessible bars and restaurants with one or two steps at the entrance.

In order to make their city a more accessible and desirable tourist destination, the first tourist agency specialized for persons with disabilities – TravAbled, recently presented the Slopey pilot-project with the backing of the City of Zagreb and the Zagreb Tourist Board. The project consists of placing portable sloped ramps on Zagreb’s liveliest and most picturesque street – Tkalčićeva, in order to provide disabled individuals with access to previously inaccessible bars and restaurants with one or two steps at the entrance.

The Slopey ramps are a product of the TravAbled company, whose owners, Stipe Splivalo and Siniša Kekić, are wheelchair bound, and are well aware of the everyday problems faced by disabled individual. They were very limited in terms of creating tourist programs, despite a great desire to expand the tourist offer in the city, because they faced the obstacle of inadequate access to particular locations. This made them search for a solution, which they found thanks to the expertise and help from staff at the Lipovica-Popovača penitentiary and the continuous support and advice from the Zagreb Tourist Board.

The Slopey ramps are built according to the highest standard, and are characterized by their simplicity and diversity, and they can be used in all kinds of places. This simple and very useful device greatly contributes to the development of accessible tourism, and offers disabled individuals the opportunity to explore freely and get to know the destination of their travels. Nowadays, disabled persons constitute the biggest tourist minority in the world; 650 million passengers who are a great tourism potential for any country.
