Zagreb will be the perfect choice for jazz lovers in October. The legendary B.P. Club will hold the Croatian Jazz Convention from October 3rd to 16th. That will be followed by the International Days of Jazz at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall and the Vip Zagreb Jazz Festival at the beginning of November at the Zagreb Youth Theater.
Besides the top domestic jazz musicians that will perform at this year's Croatian Jazz Convention, such as the Hot Club Zagreb, the Elvis Stanić Group, the Boško Petrović Trio, Matija Dedić and Maja Vučić, the Greenhouse Jazz Band and many others, the audience will also enjoy the music of a number of foreign jazz virtuosos. The International Days of Jazz will take place from October 21st to 24th, and will open with American trumpet player, Jon Faddis, and his quintet playing together with the Croatian Radio Television Big Band. The entire program will be dedicated to the 91st birthday of the famous Dizzy Gillespie, who taught Jon Faddis how to play the trumpet. On top of all that, you can expect the appearance of the Slovenian-American group, Jure Pukl New York Connection, the Australian-Brazilian Martin Reiter’s group with singer and percussionist Ana Paula da Silvom, etc. As the International Days of Jazz, which is organized by the Jazz Club Zagreb, has always been a means to highlight and promote the power of domestic jazz, this year celebrates the 85th birthday of the great Croatian guitarist and composer Aleksandar Bubanović.
Along with the events in October, from November 5th to 8th, the Vip Zagreb Jazz Festival will be held at the Zagreb Youth Theater. It is being organized as part of the multicultural project “Autumn in Zagreb” and it will be opened by the legendary jazz drummer Roy Haynes. However, he will be preceded by a performance by one of the most successful musicians on the Croatian scene, Matija Dedić. Roy Haynes is considered one of the world's most productive jazz drummers today. His career started in 1945 and he has worked professionally with many top world musicians, such as Lester Young, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, etc.
The following day will feature virtuoso double bassist Dave Holland and Kurt Elling, one of the most fascinating jazz singers, as well as pianist Brad Mehldau and his trio.
