Ten Years at the Service of Tourists
During the ten years of its existence, the Tourist Board of Zagreb County, which includes the surroundings of Zagreb, has made a giant leap in the upgrading of its tourist offer and positioning the county as an attractive, year-round tourist area with a total of 13 key tourist destination.
The green oasis of Zagreb, rich in history, well preserved nature, tradition and cultural heritage concentrated in the county’s nine towns and four municipalities has been drawing an increasing number of domestic and foreign guests.
The first ten years have been marked by the implementation of a number of projects, the most important of which was introducing the so-called brown tourist signposts which meet the highest European standards. The others have been the drawing up of the plan of information and tourist markings; working on the urban decor of towns; the promotion of souvenirs; organization of tourist trains; opening a tourist office with a tourist information point; creating the official web pages with online photo archives of the cities, places and events; and, last but not least, organizing courses and training for tour guides.
In addition to promoting the county's offer at a number of specialized fairs in the country and abroad, the Tourist Board of Zagreb County also offers professional help to those who wish to become part of the tourism industry. Currently, a project is underway to place interpretation boards by cultural and natural heritage sites such as castles, manors, burgs, sacral objects, wine roads and bicycle paths. A promotional CD of Zagreb County featuring the entire tourist offer was produced in 2007.
As for the year 2008, in addition to the implementation of the 'MobiEXPLORE' project, which sends tourist information by way of text messages to visitors’ mobile phones, the Tourist Board of Zagreb County will proceed with the projects of developing rural and transit tourism, as well as with the projects aimed at improving the quality of catering and accommodation offer.
