The 17th Festival of St. Mark

Classical music lovers can look forward to an array of concert treats during the 17th Festival of St. Mark, which will take place between April 25th and May 11th at the emblematic church in the Upper Town, which is also one of the oldest buildings in Zagreb.

This spring, top class musicians will once again perform in the Upper Town, where the 17th Festival of St. Mark will be taking place between April 25th and May 11th. The festival, which was conceived as a meeting of traditional and contemporary international events, will kick off on the holiday of St. Mark in the namesake church, bringing together top class musicians and ensembles from Croatia and abroad.

The festival’s opening act will be a ceremonial concelebrated mass performed by the Oratory Choir of St. Mark’s Church - Cantores Sancti Marci, conducted by Jurica Petar Petrač. Fans of serious music can once again expect an array of concert treats. Among them will be a performance by the Chamber Studio of the Zagreb Philharmonic, a vocal concert by the Lado Ensemble, a performance by organist Ante Knešaurek, a concert by the festival’s loyal performers - mezzo-soprano Marjana Lipovšek and bassist Alfred Burgataller, accompanied on the piano by Eva Mark Muehlher, as well as performances by the Mariinsky Stradivarius ensemble from St. Petersburg, featuring a special guest performance by Wilfried Strehle, and the solo violinist of the Berlin Philharmonic to mention a few. All concerts, apart from the performance by the Croatian pianist Vladimir Krpan at the Mimara Museum, will take place at the Church of St. Mark, which is also where tickets will be available for purchase one and a half hours before the beginning of each show.
