The Dubliners Come Back to Zagreb!

The Dubliners, one of the best known Irish folk bands which has spread the glory of Irish folk music at the international level, have promised to come back to Zagreb. On 14th September they will play in the Veliki Pogon Hall of Tvornica Kulture (Culture Factory).

The Dubliners, Ireland's best known and longest surviving musical act, are coming back to Zagreb. They will appear at the Culture Factory as part of a tour marking the 50th anniversary of their musical career. There is a rumour that this might be their farewell tour, so this may be the last opportunity to enjoy them in Zagreb. Therefore, do not miss the big jubilee concert by this legendary Irish folk band which has spread the glory of Irish folk music all over the world.

The Dubliners have been instrumental in popularising Irish folk music and their legacy can be heard in the music of many famous bands, such as The Fureys, The Chieftains, as well as The Pogues and Clannad. Their love of Irish music has influenced many other musicians, some of whom, like Flogging Molly or Dropkick Murphys, regularly make it to the top of the pop charts as original “Irish” folk bands. The Dubliners have over 30 original albums and some 20 or so compilations under their belt. Audiences still believe that some of the most popular Irish folk songs, like Dirty Old Town and Whiskey in the Jar, are their original numbers.

The band started its musical career in 1962 with Barney McKenna, Ronnie Drew, Ciaran Bourke and Luke Kelly as the original members. All of them are now deceased. The last of them, Barney McKenna, recently died in Dublin at the age of 72. The fact that he continued to perform until the very last day of his life best illustrates his ardent passion towards Irish folk music which has been consistently fostered by all the band's members.

The concert will take place at Zagreb's Culture Factory starting at 9 P.M. The tickets costing 180 and 200 kuna can be purchased at many of Zagreb's music shops (Zona, Churchill, Punkt, Dancing Bear, Dirty Old Shop, Rockmark), at the Ticketpro sales points and at the ticket office of the Culture Factory.
