Along with Hungary, Croatia will be host to the European Women’s Handball Championship between December 7th and 21st. A total of sixteen national teams will play a total of 48 matches and compete for this year’s title. The best European female handball players will play their competitive games in the Croatian cities of Zagreb, Varaždin and Osijek, as well as in the Hungarian cities of Gyõr, Debrecen and Budapest.

The official mascot of the championship will be a cute fox wearing a shirt, shoes and sweatbands in the national colours of the two host countries. The fox was chosen as the championship mascot because it is a curious and intelligent animal which always knows how to find a way to its goal. Female handball players have the same traits.

The European Women’s Handball Championship has been taking place every other year since 1994 under the umbrella of the European Handball Federation. The host nation of the first European Women’s Handball Championship was Germany, while the last one took place in Serbia.
