The first festival of choir singing

With backing by the Symphony Orchestra of the Croatian Radio and Television (HRT), and three domestic musicians, the best choir singers in Croatia will perform at the Prima Ars Fest, the national festival of choir singing, on July 3rd. The festival will provide the Zagreb audience with an opportunity to hear the members of the newly founded Girls’ Choir of Croatia perform for the first time.

As part of the first edition of the Prima Ars Fest, the new national festival of choir singing, Zagreb’s Vatroslav Lisinski concert hall will be the venue for a large concert of the newly founded Girls’ Choir of Croatia. A large audition for choir members was held over the last few months, and some sixty girls from all over the country were selected as the best.

The audition preceded the new festival, the Prima Ars Festival, which will be held in the Croatian capital this year, while other Croatian cities will have an opportunity to be hosts in the upcoming years.

The choirs will be performing with the backing by the Symphony Orchestra of the Croatian Radio and Television (HRT) and three domestic musicians - Ivana and Marija Husar, and Ivana Kindl.

The concert will be divided into two parts: in the first part, the choirs will sing works by well known Croatian composers Josip Magdić, Josip Hatze, and Petar Bergamo; the second part will provide the audience with an opportunity to enjoy the world premiere of a work by a renowned contemporary composer from Wales, Karl Jenkins.

It will feature his multimedia project, the “Adiemus – Songs of Sanctuary” cycle, which he wrote for a choir.

Apart from concerts, the festival will also feature an array of specialized seminars attended by numerous singers, music teachers, composers and conductors.

The festival is being held with support from the Education and Teacher Training Association, the Ministry of Science, Education and Sport, the City Office for Education, Culture and Sport, the Office of the Mayor of Zagreb, and the Zagreb Tourist Board.
