The folklore tradition of Međimurje

Between July 16th and 20th, stages in Ban Josip Jelačić Square and Gradec will be venues for performances by numerous folklore ensembles from Croatia and abroad as part of this year’s 48th International Folklore Review which is dedicated to the folklore tradition of Međimurje.

Numerous folklore ensembles from Croatia and abroad will take part in the 48th International Folklore Review, between July 16th and 20th. This most prestigious folklore festival in Croatia was first organized back in 1966.

Through music, dance and various folklore elements the event presents the traditional heritage of various peoples, but also affirms cultural diversity in the globalized world. This year’s folklore review is dedicated to the folklore tradition of Međimurje, a small region in Northern Croatia, bordered by the Mura and Drava rivers, with an abundance and diversity of traditional culture. Apart from performances by numerous folklore ensembles of Međimurje, as well as ensembles from other parts of Croatia, stages at the Ban Josip Jelačić Square and Gradec will also feature concerts of traditional church singing, as well as contemporary world music.

The entire event will feature a diverse concurrent programme, featuring dance and music workshops, exhibitions and a fair of traditional crafts and souvenirs.
