The largest dance and carnival spectacle

The carnival season is always a time for masked ribaldry, and Zagreb’s Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall has been known for putting together one of the best masked balls – Lisinski Dances under Masks. This charity event will take place on February 9th this year.

On February 9th, the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall will lend itself to yet another carnival extravaganza. The traditional charity ball known as Lisinski Dances Under Masks will see the 600 square metres of the large concert hall and the 1800 square metres of the lobby transformed into the largest dance floor in Zagreb. Needless to say, masks are mandatory for all who wish to partake in this spectacle which promises to be a true carnival adventure.

The event has had a very impressive turnout in the past. It can be expected that this year will be no different and that the carnival-goers will thoroughly enjoy upbeat rhythms and a contagiously joyous atmosphere.

Dance music will be supplied by live performances by several guests, including the popular Croatian rockabilly singer Robert Mareković and his band The Swingers. The trendy Croatian DJ Phat Phillie will stage a different type of show, whereas the best known Venezuelan in Zagreb, the lead vocalist of the band Cubismo, Ricardo Luque, will perform with his supporting orchestra La Sonora Tropical. The group Bloco de Samba Lagarto will also contribute playful Latino rhythms. The group is the first and only Bloco Sambe in Croatia, inspired by the samba schools of Rio de Janeiro. To everyone’s joy, they will be joined by attractive Brazilian dancers.

Apart from dance music, plenty of other entertainment is to be had in the lobby, including juggling performances, belly dancers, acrobats and fortune tellers, mask makers, body painters and decorators, and other entertainers. To add to the carnival atmosphere, there will be refreshment stands all around the concert hall selling food and wine.

Entry will be denied to visitors without a mask. On the other hand, everyone wearing a mask will automatically compete for the title of the most imaginative mask of the event.

Tickets for this year’s event are quite affordable at 70 kuna (all of the proceeds will go to charity), and they can be purchased at the Lisinski box office or via the official website at www.lisinski.hr.
